Some Random thoughts on Event Management

• What is event management? Monitor, Log/Notify, Fix
• Polling versus interupt driven
• Easy (?) to do in small environment - harder to scale in size, space, & time
• Commercial products available (CA-Unicenter, BMC-Patrol, ECO-Tools)
• HP OpenView & SunNet Manager are more Networking oriented
• Can be complex, bloated, not configurable, expensive (!), more than you need
• Free/commercial Web monitoring tools ... these guys mostly "get it" IMHO
• Argus and Big Brother also look interesting ...
  
  
• Swatch is something we REALLY use in a REAL world environment ...
• And it is free - use the event manager you allready have - syslog! ;-)
