2008 News/Media stuff about Alek's Controllable Christmas Lights for Celiac Disease

It been entertaining over the years to read the various media reports about my Christmas lights webcam. I certainly had my 15 minutes of fame for Christmas 2004 where there was international publicity about my lights. I'd be happy to get 15 seconds in subsequent years to benefit the Celiac Disease fund-rasing effort - over $35,000 has been raised. While the online linkage are wayyyy too numerous to list, here's a couple mentions that I thought were kinda interesting.

2008_12_02: Not really a media mention, but always fun to see the Christmas Lights on a big screen in front of ~300 people at the Boulder Tech Meetup.

2008_12_04: Gizmodo's writeup is typical of the online coverage.

2008_12_15: Colonel Sanders selects the Controllable Christmas Lights as a Finalist in their Nationwide Holiday Traditions Contest with the winner receiving free KFC for a year - BUURRPP! Read more and consider voting for #16 to help win $1,000 for Celiac Disease.

2008_12_19: The local Boulder Daily Camera writes a nice piece along with big page 1 photo of yours truly climbing over the balcony - D'OH! ;-)

2008_12_22: Controllable Christmas Lights wins a $1,000 for Celiac Disease plus a free year of KFC - BUURRPP!! ;-)

2008_12_22: Misc. coverage in the Boulder Daily Camera, Denver Post, and Rocky Mountain News ... plus lots online such as hilarious commentary from Fark.com

2008_12_23: Two TV trucks came by tonight (see pics below) with stories from FOX TV and Channel 2 KWGN.

2008_12_24: Trash Day - Alek's 15 minutes of fame is over and this is his job to do! ;-)

Resources for Media Folks

The Christmas FAQ should answer most questions for 'ya. Lotsa lights on the christmas pictures page and they are even wind-powered and Carbon Neutral - Al Gore would be proud! Finally, I'm trying to raise money for the University of Maryland Center for Celiac Research which is doing leading edge research into the causes and possible cures for Celiac. See their webcam page and/or give Pam King (pking@peds.umaryland.edu) a holler at 410-706-8021 for more info.
